Coastal Land Reclamation

Satellite images from Google Earth show extensive land reclamation in the Kroo Bay settlement in Central Freetown. Kroo Bay is not unique in this regard, with large swathes of coastal areas in and around Freetown being reclaimed. These areas are increasingly at risk from environmental hazards and climate change.

Hello world! … Welcome to the Lost Freetown Collective!

This is an initiative that has been ten years in the making. It started out in 2006, not as an environmental or even film project, but as a documentary photography endeavour. An architect and aspiring photojournalist, I was then living in Freetown and wanted to capture the everyday reality of different communities in the city.
